The following Legislation is currently being considered by the Sherburne Grange
Issue 2: Passing Zones With Secondary Roads Intersecting
Line #: Resolution Text:
  1. WHEREAS, Driving on our highways is, at times, a dangerous task, and

  2. WHEREAS, There are many reckless and speeding drivers on these highways, and

  3. WHEREAS, It is a common practice to pass another vehicle that is moving at a lower rate of speed than one may be traveling, and

  4. WHEREAS, Passing another vehicle is legal in authorized locations made known via road markings and signage, and

  5. WHEREAS, There are secondary roads that intersect highways in a passing zone, and

  6. WHEREAS, occasionally a motorist, in preparation to maneuver a turn may fail to activate the turn signal system in their
  7. vehicle or the turn signal may malfunction, resulting in their intentions not being made known to other motorists, and

  8. WHEREAS, a motorist coming from behind a vehicle intending to turn, but has no signal activated,
  9. may try to pass that vehicle, which could cause an accident to occur, THEREFORE BE IT

  10. RESOLVED, that the Sherburne Grange supports legislation that would make passing any vehicle
  11. illegal if there are secondary roads intersecting with a two lane highway (one lane each direction) for a reasonable
  12. distance each side of the intersection as to prevent an accident from occuring, AND BE IT FURTHER

  13. RESOLVED, that the Sherburne Grange supports legislation that would change road markings and signage to NOT allow
  14. passing other vehicles within a reasonable distance of distance each side intersecting with secondary roads.

Issue 3: New York Regional Interconnect Proposed Powerline
Line #: Resolution Text:
  1. WHEREAS, the New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) has proposed a 400,000 Volt DC powerline that would cut through
  2. our beautiful countryside, and

  3. WHEREAS, This proposed powerline would travel through our towns, our homes and our farms, and

  4. WHEREAS, This proposed powerline would not be asthetically pleasing and cause potential health risks, and

  5. WHEREAS, There are more practical and more enviromentally freindly methods of getting electricity
  6. to south eastern New York State, where the proposed powerline would be ending, THEREFORE BE IT

  7. RESOLVED, that the Sherburne Grange urges the legislators to pass legislation that would prohibit large
  8. powerline projects, such as the New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) Proposed Powerline, from being installed
  9. in our beautiful country, AND BE IT FURTHER

  10. RESOLVED, that the Sherburne Grange would support a proposition of building a cogenerating, trigenerating or
  11. polygenerating plant that could connect to the Millenium natural gas pipeline, or the construction of other
  12. renewable energy sources (eg. Wind Turbines, solar farms, ect) that would generate electricity in south eastern, NY, where it is needed.
