''Affordable Health Care for America Act''

To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans
and reduce the growth in health care spending, and
for other purposes.
From the Desk of:
Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance

Nancy Pelosi just proudly announced the formal release of
the House version of the back-room health care reform bill...

...all 1,990 pages of it!

The bill includes everything Obama and the Democrats have
been pushing for... a public option that will destroy private
choice; the unconstitutional individual mandate; the
punitive employer mandate; draconian cuts in Medicare;
and massive tax increases.

Pelosi also started the "countdown clock" to a House floor
vote now slated for NEXT WEEK.

Go here to download the entire 1,990-page bill:

Tell DEC---No Burn Ban Without Funding For Farm Plastic Collection

Farmers must have an outlet for farm plastics
Under new proposed regulations, the Department of Environmental Conservation plans to prohibit the practice of open burning in New York State. This could result in costly-and often restrictive-refuse removal, especially on farms. In response to NYFB comments on the original open burning regulations offered by DEC last year, these revised regulations do allow the burning of most agricultural wastes, smudge pots and open fires in response to animal disease outbreaks. However, they do not take into consideration the large variety of plastics used on farms for feed, fertilizer and storage.

While plastics and other synthetic materials should not be burned, these regulations pose a logistical and financial problem for landowners and farmers. Money has been appropriated in the past two state budgets from the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) for an agricultural plastic collection program. However, to date, DEC has not spent any money for this purpose and there is still no comprehensive farm plastic collection program in the state. NYFB is urging DEC to spend the EPF money immediately to establish a statewide farm plastic collection program to lessen the burden of these regulations on farmers across New York.

DEC is currently accepting comments through June 26 on the proposal. Please write to DEC and your Senate and Assembly representatives urging a change to accommodate the needs of rural New York. You can do this easily on the NYFB E-Lobby Center at www.nyfb.org.

Outdoor Wood Boiler Regs Hurt Rural Residents

Oppose expensive proposal that doesn’t improve air quality
New regulations to strictly regulate the use of outdoor wood boilers do not successfully solve the intended goal of improving air quality, but do place a significant financial burden on residents of rural New York. Many families have turned to outdoor wood boilers as a more affordable choice in the face of high heating oil and natural gas prices. These regulations would force families to abandon the investment in their current boiler to completely replace it or turn to unrenewable fuel sources. Urge legislators and DEC to reject this proposal now!

Oppose Mandatory Overtime For Farmworkers

Bill would devastate family businesses during economic crisis
Several bills that would amend the labor law to require overtime pay for farmworkers would put many farm businesses in danger of closing. In the midst of a global fiscal crisis, New York farms are also facing increased input costs, low commodity prices, higher taxes and fees and fewer state resources. This is another expensive mandate that won't actually provide the intended benefit to farmworkers and further hurts family farm businesses. It is important that you write your lawmakers today to strongly oppose these bills!

Soil and Water Districts Threatened With Jobs
We have been asked by the Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation District to write the Governor and our legislators and urge them to honor their contracts and release the funds in the Environmental Protection Fund to the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets so that ALL Soil and Water Conservation Districts may continue to operate.
